LARKIN SEES BILL TO ASSIST WALLKILL SCHOOLS THROUGH SENATE

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that legislation he sponsored (S.7777) to adjust certain state aid payments to the Wallkill Central School District has passed the State Senate.

According to the legislation, excess state aid payments that were inadvertently made to the Wallkill Central School District would not all be deducted from State Aid payments in fiscal year 2008/2009, but would be deducted over a six-year period of time so that the school district can absorb this lost revenue over time instead of all in one year.

"This bill was requested by the Wallkill Central School District and I was ready to do whatever I could to help ease the burden caused by this error," said Senator Larkin. "Other school districts in the state have also been in the same situation in the past. This bill helps to remedy the problem in the same way it was handled by those districts. Stretching the deductions out over the next six years will help lessen the impact of the loss."

The bill has been passed by both the State Senate and the Assembly and will be sent to the Governor for approval.
